  • Biography: Dr. Kenta Nakai is a professor at the HumanGenomeCenter, Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo, Japan. He obtained his PhD degree in 1992 from KyotoUniversity and has worked at KyotoUniversity, the National Institute of Basic Biology, and OsakaUniversity before moving to the University of Tokyo. He was the president of the Japanese Society for Bioinformatics in 2006 and 2007. His main research interest is to develop computational ways for interpreting biological information, especially about transcriptional regulation, which is encoded in genome sequence data. One of his papers reporting the development of a knowledge-based prediction system of subcellular localization sites, PSORT, has been cited more than 1,000 times so far.
